Facelift Surgery

Rhytidectomy

A facelift, also called "rhytidectomy," smoothes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues and removes excess fat. As a result, your face will appear firmer and fresher. If you are considering a facelift, your board-certified plastic surgeon wants you to be thoroughly informed about the procedure. Reading this brochure is the first step. A personal consultation with your surgeon is the bet way to obtain the additional information you will need.

Considering a facelift?

A facelift restores smoother, more pleasing contours to your face and neck. It can help you look as good as you feel, and perhaps feel younger than you are.

Am I a good candidate for a facelift?

One or more of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for a facelift:
  • A deep line, or fold, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
  • Jowls, or loss of well-defined jawline associated with youthfulness.
  • Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the "highlight" areas of the cheekbones.
  • Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical "cords" or excess fatty tissues in the neck.
A facelift can improve all of these problems. It cannot, however correct conditions such as sagging eyebrows, excess skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids, or wrinkles around the mouth. Your plastic surgeon can provide further information if you have an interest in other procedures to reat these areas.

Once you determine that having a facelift is something you youls like to do for yourself, then you are ready to proceed with planning for your operation. Your surgeon understands that this is an important decision in your life.
