Wirt A. Hines, M.D.

Dr. Hines grew up in a small university town in Mississippi. His father was a dentist. He received his B.S. Degree in Chemistry at Mississippi State University, and his M.D. Degree at the University of Miami, Florida. He did his surgical internship at Duke University in North Carolina. He had five years of General Surgery training and three years of Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Utah. He has been in private practice in Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is “Board Certified” with the “American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”.
Practical Expertise:Plastic Surgery is the most talked about and written about surgical specialty in our society. The major television networks frequently have topics concerning cosmetic issues and the latest procedures and/or methods of aging reversal, skin rejuvenation and improvement in someone’s appearance – both male and female.
When I decided to go into this specialty, there it was – the longest training program of them all – which consisted of 4-5 years of general surgery first, then 2-3 years of plastic surgery. That included not only cosmetic surgery, but almost all types of reconstructive surgery such as facial fractures, extensive injuries with missing skin, bone and muscles of the legs, arms, chest and face, etc. Eventually, I decided to limit my practice to mostly cosmetic surgery. Keeping up with its innovations and changes is always a challenge. My most common surgical procedures are deep plane facelift (Rhytidectomy), cosmetic nose surgery (Rhinoplasty), breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lift (Mastopexy), body contouring (Liposuction), “tummy tuck” (Abdominoplasty), etc.
Philosophy:The plastic or cosmetic patient is, of course, the most important part of my practice. His or her whishes, wants or needs, sometimes are not easy to express. My goal with each new patient is to fully understand what is expected and to make sure I can deliver those expectations. Never has this been more important! Almost daily, I come across new and completely confusing procedures, creams, chemicals and cosmetic promises through the media that will not work, that have not been approved by the FDA, and which are completely unproven regarding their effectiveness and safety. Most, if no all of these procedures have no long-term studies or comparisons. My job is to guide each patient so that a logical
and safe plan results from each consultation.
